One week before GCSEs. A Level results day →

GCSE results for summer 2027 come out on Thursday, 19 August 2027, a week after A Levels. Schools receive them the day before under restricted release, and most open to students from 8am. If you can't collect in person, schools can post results or release them to someone with your written permission.

In 2026, GCSE results day was Thursday, 20 August 2026. The Thursday-in-late-August pattern repeats each year, set by JCQ.

If the grades aren't what you hoped

The morning matters. Sixth forms and colleges sort out borderline cases on the day, in person and by phone, and places move fast. If English or maths came in below grade 4, you'll resit: November for a quick turnaround, or next summer alongside your other studies. Your school can also request a review of marking; ask them the same day, because review deadlines fall in early September.

Common questions

What time do GCSE results come out?

Schools usually open from 8am on results day. Some email results or use an online portal; your school will have told you its arrangement before the summer.

What counts as a pass?

Grade 4 is a standard pass and grade 5 a strong pass on the 9-1 scale. Sixth forms and colleges set their own entry requirements on top, often 5s and 6s in specific subjects.

What if I don't get the grades for my sixth form place?

Ring the sixth form or college the same morning. Many hold places open with slightly lower grades, and most towns have more than one provider with spaces in late August. English and maths below grade 4 lead to resits in November or the following summer.

When is A Level results day 2027?

One week earlier, Thursday 12 August 2027. It has its own page on this site.
